Education remains the most powerful tool for building lasting peace and prosperity in any nation. Across Nigeria, both the Federal and state governments have introduced policies designed to remove barriers to education — particularly for children in underserved and conflict-affected communities.
The Universal Basic Education (UBE) Programme
Under the UBE Act, every Nigerian child is entitled to free, compulsory basic education covering primary and junior secondary school. State governments receive matching grants from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to build classrooms, train teachers, and provide learning materials. Parents should know that no public primary or junior secondary school is permitted to charge tuition fees.
The Student Loan Act
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) was established to provide interest-free loans to students from low-income families attending accredited tertiary institutions. Eligible students can apply directly through the NELFUND portal.
State-Level Initiatives
Several states have introduced additional scholarship programmes, free school uniform schemes, and community learning centres to complement federal efforts. In states where ENPUAI operates, we work with local education authorities to ensure communities are aware of every available programme.
