ENPUAI’s Youth Leadership Academy in Plateau State has graduated its 500th participant. All 500 graduates are now active as youth peace ambassadors in their home local government areas, covering all 17 of Plateau’s LGAs.
The Academy was established in 2021 in response to security analysis consistently showing that young Nigerians were the primary perpetrators and primary victims of Plateau’s persistent inter-communal violence — and that the state lacked a structured, community-rooted mechanism for redirecting youth energy towards peace.
The 10-day Academy covers conflict analysis, community dialogue facilitation, leadership skills, peer mediation, and practical peace project design. Each graduate receives a seed grant for a community peace activity within three months of graduation.
Of the 500 graduates, 312 have completed at least one community peace project. Seventeen graduates have gone on to gain paid employment in peace and security roles with state and national government agencies.
“The youth are not Nigeria’s problem. They are Nigeria’s peace.” — Youth Ambassador, Jos South LGA.
