The Endurable Peace and Unity Ambassadors Initiative

Forty-seven mosque-church partnership pairs across Kaduna have signed a formal Interfaith Covenant of Mutual Protection, witnessed by the Kaduna State government.

In a ceremony participants described as historic, forty-seven mosque-church partnership pairs across Kaduna State signed a formal Interfaith Covenant of Mutual Protection and Community Solidarity — committing each pair to respond jointly to any community tension in their shared neighbourhood before it can escalate to violence.

The partnerships were established through ENPUAI’s Interfaith Peace Partnership Programme, which identifies faith communities in the same neighbourhoods and trains their leaders together in peacebuilding, trauma awareness, and community dialogue facilitation.

The Covenant formalises what had been an informal relationship. Each partnership pair now has:

  • A joint written protocol for emergency communication
  • A designated shared “Peace Space” — a neutral meeting location for any community member seeking mediation
  • A commitment to hold a joint community activity at least once every quarter
  • A shared early-warning contact list linked to the Kaduna State Early Response system

The signing was attended by the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security, who announced the formal inclusion of all forty-seven partnerships in the state’s Early Warning and Early Response infrastructure.

“We were always told our faiths are incompatible. ENPUAI helped us discover that our values are identical.” — Mallam Ibrahim Sule, Rigasa Central Mosque.
